RIT-D projects
We use the Regulatory Investment Test for Distribution (RIT-D) to ensure we invest smartly in our electricity network. If a project costs more than $7 million and meets certain National Electricity Rules (NER) criteria, we must run a RIT-D assessment.
What is RIT-D?
The Regulatory Investment Test for Distribution (RIT-D) is a cost-benefit analysis required under the National Electricity Rules (NER) for major electricity distribution network investments.
The RIT-D is used to help make fair and smart decisions about future electricity investments. It makes sure the community is kept informed, compares different options to find the best value for money, and looks at alternative solutions with external stakeholders to meet network needs.
We are required by the NER to apply a RIT-D test for all network augmentation projects greater than $7 million that meet the NER criteria.
How the RIT-D process works
There are five main steps during the evaluation process.

Options analysis
To address the need, we assess different options and consider non-network solutions.

Non-network Options Screening Report
After our analysis, we open up consultation for feedback and for submissions for non-network options.

Draft Project Assessment Report
We confirm the preferred option will proceed to address the identified need and demonstrates its justification through detailed modelling, inputs, and assumptions, while incorporating stakeholder feedback.

Final Project Assessment Report
We confirm the preferred option that will proceed to address the identified need. This report will demonstrate the justification through detailed modelling, inputs, and assumptions, and demonstrate how stakeholder feedback has been incorporated.
