Driving to net zero

We’re taking action to cut emissions, protect our environment and build a stronger, more resilient network for our customers.

Our work includes:

  • Reducing carbon emissions and supporting Australia’s transition to net zero
  • Building a climate-resilient network to handle bushfires, floods, storms and extreme heat
  • Managing vegetation safely to reduce bushfire risk and protect threatened species
  • Working with local councils and state registers to protect heritage and significant trees

We know these challenges can’t be solved alone. That’s why we partner with customers, stakeholders and utilities worldwide, to share ideas and develop practical, affordable solutions.

Using our power to empower others

We’re committed to building a sustainable and diverse community, where both the environment and people thrive.

  • Our environmental work helps protect the places our communities call home. We’re reducing emissions, building a climate-resilient network, managing vegetation safely and protecting threatened species.
  • Our Powering Communities Grants program supports local communities by funding projects that build resilience, enhance sustainability, and deliver lasting social and environmental benefits
  • We are supporting the environment through our community batteries initiative, which enables households to access cleaner, renewable energy, reduces reliance on the grid, and helps lower carbon emissions across local communities
  • We’re safely managing vegetation to reduce bushfire risk and protect threatened species

These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to creating a cleaner, more resilient future by partnering with communities to deliver meaningful environmental and social impact.

Restoring degraded saltmarsh

Through our Powering Communities grants program, we’ve partnered with OzFish to clean up and restore degraded saltmarshes at Burroo Bay, in the Illawarra region. Working alongside passionate locals and dedicated bush-regeneration staff from Shellharbour City Council, together we removed rubbish and planted nearly 2,000 saltmarsh species. This effort will help enhance local habitat for fish and birds, improve water quality and deliver lasting benefits to the environment and the community.
