We set our tariffs to reflect the changing needs of our customers

We aim to:

  • Share the costs of maintaining and upgrading the network fairly among all customers
  • Encourage and incentivise more efficient use of the network, bringing costs down for everyone
  • Ensure customers pay their fair share for the way they use the network
  • Include our lowest ever network tariff for retailers to encourage consumption of cheap, sustainable solar energy in the middle of the day

How we set our tariffs

We set our tariffs to cover our costs and then we align them to work with how customers are using the network. Our tariffs account for 27% of the retail energy bill for customers using our network. Your retail bill is also made up of generation, transmission and retailer costs and fees towards government schemes.

Our costs cover the cost of building and maintaining the network, the future costs of providing new services, handling growth in demand and exports and replacing certain parts of the network when required.

To ensure a fairer and more efficient system, we've introduced time-of-use tariffs for retailers instead of a single flat rate. This shift, encouraged by the National Electricity Rules and Australian Energy Regulator, reflects modern energy use and promotes a fairer pricing structure.

Our tariffs are also adapting to changing energy use now more customers are feeding affordable solar energy into the grid during the middle of the day.

Information
Our revenue is capped by the Australian Energy Regulator. Because we operate under a regulated revenue cap, this change in tariffs charged to retailers does not increase our revenue.
