Before, during and after a flood
Electricity and water are a dangerous combination. If you're impacted by a flood, follow these tips to stay safe.

Customer flood assistance
Many areas across our network are subject to flooding. We're here to help you stay safe and get reconnected if your property is impacted.

When a flood warning is issued
- Where possible, remove or relocate all portable appliances and electrical pump motors, to an area well above estimated flood height
- Check you have a reliable torch or lantern handy and that you know the location of your meter box and main switch
- Switch off the electricity to all non-essential circuits before they become submerged in rising floodwaters
In the event of evacuation or power outage due to flooding
Switch off all appliances and remove switch fuses at the main switchboard or meter box. Do this, even if we have advised that power has been turned off in your area
If you’re using a portable generator, ensure that deadly exhaust fumes do not enter your home
Never connect generators to switchboards unless an isolation switch has been installed by a licensed electrician
Don't bring outdoor heaters or braziers inside your home. Their fumes can be lethal and you risk starting a fire inside your property
