      Extreme weather events can cause power outages. Use this checklist to make sure you're prepared.

      Prepare your Power Outage Plan

      Many things can lead to a power outage, for example storms, bushfires, floods and network issues. In many cases they can occur without warning. Developing a Power Outage Plan for your home can help remove the risks to your home and help keep everyone safe.

      Ensure you can access your essentials

      Food and water
      Store 3 to 7 days' worth of food and drinking water for everyone, including pets
      Cooking
      Have a backup cooking method, like a camp stove
      Preserve food
      Use eskys with ice packs for long outages
      If you have babies or infants at the property
      Have a safe way to heat baby formula and sterilise equipment
      Torches and lanterns
      Keep lights in an easy to find spot
