Finding suitable locations and installing direct EVSE connections
Your nominated ASP can help manage the process to find suitable locations to install stand-alone public electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and to get them connected.
All public EVSE electrical connection applications can be made through our Connections Portal.
- Search for suitable sites. You can use Google maps to help you search and confirm the address of potential locations.
- Undertake preliminary capacity checks, using a nominated ASP if required. Your ASP can then search our Available Capacity of Distributed Substation Map to confirm the available capacity. Engage with other stakeholders such as councils.
- Submit your application for us to inspect and approve the substation as being suitable to connect your charge point.
- Submit your request to connect to the substation as well as your design and access plans.
- Install and energise the EV charge point and we’ll conduct a site inspection.
- Request and receive metering (NMI) and final operational documentation.

Navigating through the connection process for shared (joint use) assets
The connection process for installing Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) on shared (joint use) assets can be made through our online Connections Portal.
The regulated connection process requires commercial agreements to be approved prior to installations, including Facilities Access Agreements (FAA) and Site Nomination Agreements.
Refer to our guide for, or contact our Connections team for more information.
Finding an Accredited Service Provider
If you require a new or upgraded connection to the network, you will need to engage an ASP to connect your EV charging station.
Depending on the size of your proposed EV charging station, you will need:
- Level 1 & 3 ASPs (Construction & Design): if a network upgrade is required to provide the proposed load.
- Level 2 ASP (Service): if the network has enough capacity to supply your chosen location.
