Luddenham Road zone substation
We are planning to construct a zone substation in Luddenham to support the growing energy needs of homes and businesses in and around Sydney Science Park.Â
Overview
Endeavour Energy is proposing to undertake construction works to build a zone substation on lot 6 DP 255578, within 480-544 Luddenham Road, Luddenham.
The proposal involves construction of a 45MVA firm 132/22kV zone substation adjacent to the north-eastern corner of Sydney Science Park. Construction of the zone substation will include land levelling and construction of a fenced area housing substation components.
The need
The proposal is required, as part of Endeavour Energy’s broader transmission supply strategy to meet the future electricity demand of Sydney Science Park and surrounding developments. The proposal is crucial to providing a stable and reliable source of electricity to new infrastructure, and future residences and businesses locations within and around Sydney Science Park.
Review of environmental factors
Endeavour Energy, as the Authorised Network Operator and proponent for this proposal, will undertake an assessment of the project in consideration of all environmental, technical, financial and community impacts. Under the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act), Endeavor Energy is the determining authority of the proposal.
In accordance with Part 5 of the EP&A Act, Endeavour Energy has prepared a draft Review of Environmental Factors (REF) which outlines:
- The proposal description and justification (including benefits and objectives)
- An overview of the relevant legislative framework
- Consultation completed during the assessment phase
- Consideration of alternatives
- The environmental impact assessment and mitigation measures to be applied during construction and operation of the proposal
Stakeholder input and feedback is an important part of the assessment process, including preparation of the REF. Following the consultation process, Endeavour will consider any submissions and determine if the project is to proceed as planned and on what development conditions.
If approved, a Notice of Determination containing the development consent conditions and authorising the construction works, will be issued by Endeavour Energy for the development.
Community correspondence
Stakeholders and landowners located close to the proposal site will be notified of construction works ahead of time. In the event that any electricity supply outages are required to facilitate the safe construction of the proposal, impacted landowners will be notified in advance.
Any planned electricity outages will be kept to a minimum and be as short as possible to safely facilitate the development.
