We work hard to deliver uninterrupted, reliable power
We monitor our network 24/7 to respond quickly to faults, storms and emergencies. While we can’t prevent every outage, we’re always working to make electricity supply more reliable.
Measuring power reliability
We measure power reliability in two ways:
- The average total time a customer’s power is off during a year
- The average number of times a customer experiences a power outage in a year
Knowing this helps us plan to improve network reliability and upgrades to reduce the time and incidence of outages across our network. Whether you're working from home or running a business, reliable power helps life run more smoothly.
Understanding planned vs unplanned outages
Sometimes we schedule outages as part of planned works and upgrades. Others are unexpected.
Here’s how they’re different - and how we manage both.

Guaranteed Service Levels
We’re committed to providing a safe, reliable, and affordable electricity supply. While we’re proud our network is one the most reliable in Australia, there’s always room for improvement.
If we don’t deliver minimum required levels of reliability to your property, you may be eligible for a Guaranteed Service Level (GSL) payment under our operating licence.
Payments are based on the number of outages (or interruptions) you experience or the length of time you were without electricity within a financial year.

How we’re planning for the future
To ensure we keep up with technological advancements and meet customer needs, now and into the future, we focus a lot of our energy on future network planning.
We factor in major developments like Western Sydney Airport, new commercial or residential suburbs like Bungarribee and Marsden Park and the growth of businesses throughout Greater Western Sydney, as well as residential neighbourhoods experiencing change or involved in energy efficiency programs.
We’re planning ahead for what emerging technologies and changing community expectations means for our modern grid. Using a suite of sophisticated design tools and computer models provides us with historical analysis and advanced forecasting. This helps us plan for the future and deliver innovative climate resilient solutions as well as renewable integration for our modern grid.
